Economy: The bowl of the piston ensures that as much as possible of the fuel injected into the combustion chamber is burnt. Losses in efficiency, caused primarily by unburnt fuel close to the liner, are minimised.
Low emissions: Unburnt (or partially combusted fuel) is a source of harmful emissions. By improving combustion efficiency, emissions can be better controlled.
Cost of operation: All pistons have a ring set that includes a Keystone compression ring. This ring minimises dissipation of gases between liner and piston, thus reducing the introduction of carbon to the lubricating oil. It also helps to
sustain cleaner combustion. Over the long term, there will be less wear in the cylinder liner and reduced oil consumption.
